On October 4 evening, Paris and its inner suburbs (Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis and Val-de-Marne) were placed on maximum alert along with Marseille and Guadeloupe. Since October 6, Paris and its inner suburbs are subjected to new restrictions in order to curb the coronavirus spread in these territories, including total closure of bars for two weeks, closure of clubs, arcades and dance halls to the public, and shopping malls limited to 1 person for 4sqm, as well as a gauge reduced by 50% in classrooms and amphitheaters in universities.
This Thursday October 8, 2020 at 6 p.m., Olivier Véran addressed – as he has been doing every week – the health situation in the country and the evolution of the pandemic in the country.
Therefore, what has the Health minister announced? Four cities, naming Lille, Lyon, Saint-Étienne and Grenoble are put on maximum alert starting Saturday October 10, with the implementation of new restrictions such as the closure of bars and reinforced health protocol in restaurants.
Moreover, two French cities have been put on reinforced alert, starting this Saturday morning as well: Dijon and Clermont-Ferrand.
Last but not least, the health situation is also judged as preoccupying in the cities of Toulouse and Montpellier. They are carefully and thoroughly monitored and might as well be put on maximum alert from Monday.
“The situation has worsened in several big cities. Dijon, Clermont-Ferrand are moving to reinforced alert starting Saturday morning. Lille, Grenoble, Lyon and Saint-Etienne are moving to maximum alert this Saturday morning” the Health Minister announced on Saturday October 8, before adding the cities of “Toulouse and Montpellier are under watch and are likely to be put on maximum alert this Monday.”
As for All Saints Vacation and likely departures, the Minister said: “we’ve come to the agreement to limit trips to one big city to another. We are not in the situation as it was a few months back when we decided to limit trips. Moreover, trips from one zone to the other are not likely to spread the virus from one zone to the other”. Olivier Véran has also sent a warning to the French: “We must remain cautious during he vacations, the summer period showed it. All Saints Vacations are often spent in families, my message is even stronger: protect yourselves, protect the others”.
As for Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire, he announced several support measures.
