His son, Moïse de Camondo became a prominent collector and an important financier. When his mother died, he had the family home razed to the ground, with the exception of the building on the street , to build a private mansion by the architect René Sergent, to house his important collection of furniture, paintings and objets d'art of the 18th century .

When his son, who was named Nissim like his grandfather, died during the First World War, Moïse decided to bequeath his hotel and its collections to theCentral Union of Decorative Arts in memory of his son, for whom he had intended it. With this in mind, he continued to enrich it until his death in 1935, creating a collection that was perfectly representative of French 18th century art .A museum that was then inaugurated by his daughter in 1936.

This hotel, built from 1911 to 1914, is a classical-looking residence but equipped with the latest modern comforts of a house from the beginning of the 20th century. It is the only testimony preserved in its integrity that allows us to understand the functioning of a private house on the Plaine Monceau.
