No festivities in Bois-le-Roi this year for the 14th of July. The planned festivities have been cancelled by decision of the prefecture. The commune hopes to be able to postpone the fireworks display until later in the year, but there are no guarantees for the moment.

The French national holiday is celebrated every year on July 14: this date commemorates the storming of the Bastille on July 14, 1789. This symbol of monarchy fell into the hands of revolutionaries, marking the imminent birth of republic and democracy in France.

Nowadays, this national holiday is an occasion to get together, dance and sing, and above all to admire the fireworks. The commune of Bois-le-Roi, in the Seine-et-Marne region of France, is also organizing a fireworks display to mark this special day.

The small town is inviting residents to gather on theIle de Loisirs, near the lake, to admire a magnificent fireworks display. The free, family-friendly show starts at 10.45pm on Thursday July 13, so don't miss out!

The commune of Bois-le-Roi is bordered on one side by the Fontainebleau forest and on the other by the Seine. Two very pleasant, bucolic landscapes, making the town a true natural haven. The area is guarded and protected for its interesting flora and fauna.

But that's not the town's only point of interest: there's also the Château de Brolles, built in 1862, and the 12th-century church of Saint-Pierre, listed as a historic monument.
