This is a situation of a lifetime. With the coronavirus epidemic health crisis, many sectors have been deeply impacted by the consequences including tourism and event. Between March 1 and August 31, 2020, the air traffic is dropping: over this period, a decrease of 81% travelers in French airports in comparison with last year has been noticed. It means there are at least 88 million fewer pessengers.
Between March 1 and August 31, 20.6 million passengers have taken off or landed in France. Last year, over the same period of time, French airports totaled 88 million more. And among the 12.5 million passengers that flew in July and august from or to French airports, there are far less foreigners than usual.
For the record, the coronavirus epidemic led to heavy consequences in some sectors. In Paris, tourism suffers from this health crisis and the collapse of the air traffic led to the closure of the Orly airport. Operators have also been invited to propose solid flight program by June 15th. The State Secretary for Transports also says that "The health situation must keep on improving and we must standardize the health measures with our European and Mediterranean neighbors".
We must say, that on a usual basis, flights towards Maghreb represent most of the activity of this airport and resuming air traffic depends on the reopening of borders. But, Maghreb's borders are slowly reopening.
The day before, the airport set in South Paris recorded only twenty plane movements for about a thousand passengers instead of the usual and daily 600 movements and 90,000 passengers. Out of the hundred airlines working within the Orly airport only four of them remained active. They have been transferred to the Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport.
