On the occasion of the Journées du Patrimoine, the Saint-Eustache church in the Halles district of Paris welcomes you on Saturday, September 16, 2023 for a meeting with the stonemasons.

You've walked past it a thousand times, without ever taking the time to go inside. Standing next to the Forum des Halles in Paris's 1st arrondissement, the Saint-Eustache church nevertheless inspires quietude in a district that's constantly changing and buzzing with activity.

The European Heritage Days 2023 offer you the opportunity to finally discover this religious building, where Louis XIV celebrated his First Communion. On Saturday, September 16, 2023, you can visit the construction site of the western portal and the chapel of Saint-Anne, free of charge, to discover every nook and cranny and unravel its mysteries.

It's also an opportunity to learn all about the history of this multi-styled church (a Gothic structure with Renaissance decoration and a classical façade, founded in the 13th century), as well as the life of its community. Off-site, you can also discover the great organ inside, which, with its 8,000 pipes, is one of the largest in Europe.

You can also learn a few historical anecdotes about Saint-Eustache: funerals of Colbert, Jean de La Fontaine, Mirabeau, Mozart's mother and Turenne... The building hosted the final tributes of numerous personalities. Not forgetting, of course, the paintings, stained-glass windows and frescoes by Charles Le Brun, Raymond Mason, Jean-Baptiste Pigalle, Rubens and Antoine Soulignac that adorn the walls of the parish.

A wonderful discovery to make!
