For the 42nd edition of the Journées Européennes du Patrimoine in Paris, thechurch of Saint-Sulpice will be opening its doors and revealing its mysteries to you on September 20 and 21, 2025.
Located in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, this church has been listed as a historic monument since 1915. Although construction began in 1646, it took almost two centuries to complete in 1870. It was here that Victor Hugo and his wife, Adèle Foucher, were married. It's the largest church in Paris and one of the most famous, emblematic of the Saint-Germain district.
Built on a small medieval sanctuary, the church's elegant classicalarchitecture is a sight to behold. It contains numerous works of art, including murals by Eugène Delacroix, a large Cavaillé-Coll organ and an astronomical gnomon.
