The Heritage Days are held every year on the third weekend of September: so save the date 19 and 20 September 2026 for two more days of tours and discoveries!
This major cultural event gives the public the chance to visit special places, distinguished by their history, architecture or the secrets they hold. The Journées du Patrimoine give us the chance to explore museums, castles, concert halls, backstage areas in department stores or railway stations, sports clubs, gardens...
Among the must-see sites for this event are ministries and places of power. In Paris, the French are invited to visit the two chambers of Parliament, the various ministries, the Élysée Palace... These places, rarely open to the public, are accessible throughout the weekend, mostly by reservation.
In the 7e arrondissement of Paris, the ministère du Travail, de la Santé, des Solidarités et des familles is also opening its doors to the curious on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20 upcoming. Don’t miss a tour of this unusual building, which hides an air-raid shelter and a skylight crafted by a distinguished French artisan from the early 20th century...
Visit to the Social Ministries
The social ministries at the European Heritage Days 2026: come discover our heritage, our history, our professions
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The ministries tasked with Labour, Solidarity and Health are unusually opening their doors on Saturday, 19 September and Sunday, 20 September 2026, for the 43rd edition of the European Heritage Days.
For this edition, the program is centered essentially around Art Deco heritage. It’s a rare opportunity to delve into a setting steeped in social and architectural history, normally closed to the public.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
### An architecture you might not expect at the heart of the administration
Built in 1929 under the direction of architect Guillaume Tronchet, this edifice stands as one of the most striking Art Deco complexes within the administration. Renovated in the early 2000s, it has preserved its original decorations: wrought ironwork, sculpted friezes, and glasswork testify to a state that invested in a building worthy of its social ambitions.
This building crystallizes the architectural heritage punctuating the major social transformations of the 20th century. It now hosts nearly 2,500 staff.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
### The visit route
The guided tour, conducted in small groups, will cover:
- the Simone Veil space, home to two magnificent libraries rich in history, jewels of the Art Deco;
- the press room, with its remarkable architectural features, a witness to important events of yesterday and today;
- the air-raid shelter, a remnant of World War II;
- a panoramic view of Paris from the building’s terrace, weather permitting.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
### Did you know?
The building did not host only civil servants. In its early days, it also housed, under the grand glass roof, the first insured who came to the counters of the interdepartmental social insurance fund, established by the law of 5 April 1928.
