In 1984, Jack Lang launched the Journées du Patrimoine, a cultural event enabling the French to (re)discover the country's monuments, places of art, power and creation, in order to highlight the richness of every corner of France. The event has spread to several European countries, and is as popular as ever, even for this 40th edition on September 16 and 17, 2023.
The Journées du Patrimoine offer Parisians and Ile-de-France residents the chance to visit, free of charge, some of the most important sites in French history, such as châteaux, ministries, the Eiffel Tower, the Cour des Comptes... Or even Charles de Gaulle's office in Paris.
The Charles de Gaulle Foundation, housed in a private mansion on the Faubourg Saint-Germain in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, pays tribute to this great figure. Over the weekend of the JEP, the foundation is opening its doors to the public free of charge, giving us the opportunity to learn more about the first president of the Fifth Republic, and above all about his post-World War II activities.
