The Musée de la Toile de Jouy is a must-see on the fashion itinerary of the Journées du Patrimoine 2025! A veritable nugget of textile history, it was founded in 1977 to celebrate the emblematic printed fabric of the same name, born in the 18th century in Jouy-en-Josas, in the Yvelines region of France. This fabric conquered the world with its poetic universe of rural motifs.
In the heart of a charming château, the museum offers a fascinating insight into the world of printed fabrics, the secrets of their manufacture and the great artists of the time. The collections illustrate the evolution of toile de Jouy through the centuries, creating a priceless heritage!
After discovering the "Bulles de jouy-Quand la Toile de Jouy rencontre la bande dessinée" exhibition, young and old are invited to create a collective comic strip set in the Oberkampf factory.
Come and have fun with family and friends, and create stories in pictures.
Create a small sketchbook, then customize the cover by developing your graphic style and creating your own story to turn into a comic strip.
Both heirs to the same visual culture, character-printed canvases and comics are about telling stories through images.
Toile de Jouy and comics may seem like two very different expressions of artistic creation, but a comparative study of them reveals a number of links.
Accompanied by a lecturer, you'll discover that character-printed canvases and comic strips are both heirs to the same visual culture, as well as to a common desire: to tell stories in images, one on cotton canvas, the other on paper.
To accompany the paintings illustrating the Fables de la Fontaine presented in the temporary exhibition "Bulles de Jouy: Quand la Toile de Jouy rencontre la Bande dessinée", the Compagnie "La Grande Fugue" will be offering lyrical concerts in light, classical, unusual and surprising forms based on the Fables de la Fontaine.
Every 20m from 3pm to 4:30pm, enjoy a show featuring a delightful blend of viola da gamba and songs on all the fables that have enchanted young and old alike.
Happy Heritage Days in Yvelines!
