An exceptional sculptor, Chana Orloff (1888-1968) was born into a Jewish family in the Ukraine. In 1910, she moved to Paris to further her training as a dressmaker, but soon turned her attention to sculpture. She was integrated into the artistic circles of the Parisian avant-garde, and met with dazzling success, not least thanks to her portraits. In 1926, Auguste Perret designed her "travailloir". It was in this bright, functional space that she worked and lived until her death in 1968.
