Heritage Days 2026 at the Crédit Municipal de Paris, the old Mont-de-Piété

Here we go! The long-awaited return of this beloved gathering for culture lovers, great tips, and new experiences is finally here. The Journées du Patrimoine return to Paris and Île-de-France for a 43rd edition that promises a wealth of exciting discoveries.

Every year, on the third weekend of September, this flagship event on the Paris cultural calendar invites us to rediscover our heritage in a new light through a fresh, often free, lineup. At each edition, numerous monuments, châteaux, musées, as well as private venues offer visits, activities and workshops for the whole family. In the Île-de-France region, the program is so vast that there’s something for everyone, matching each passion.

The Journées du Patrimoine are one of the rare opportunities to discover the Crédit Municipal de Paris. Located in the heart of the City of Light, in the Marais, its origins date back to 1637, making it the oldest financial institution in Paris. Formerly known as the Mont-de-Piété, theHôtel particulier in which it is housed was built on the site of a former convent, itself founded on Philippe Auguste's former enceinte. Remains of both monuments can still be seen.

The Heritage Days 2026 Program at the Crédit Municipal de Paris

• Discovering Crédit Municipal de Paris (the former Mont-de-Piété) — a self-guided tour

  Dive into the history of the Crédit Municipal de Paris, once Paris's Mont-de-Piété, an institution founded in 1637 and housed at 55, rue des Francs-Bourgeois (4th arrondissement) since 1777.

  As you tour, discover a historic site that houses notably a fragment of Philippe Auguste’s wall as well as the city’s largest auction hall. This journey invites you to explore the institution’s various missions: pawnbroking, auctions, budgetary support, and much more.

  All spaces are open to the public. Guided tours are also available by appointment. All workshops are free.

  Note: the pawnbroking room is only accessible on Sundays. On Saturdays, it is reserved for clients.
