The Hôtel de Clermont is one of the oldest private mansions in the "Noble Faubourg", a district that sprang up in the early 18th century on the grounds of the Saint-Germain-des-Prés abbey, near the Invalides. An architectural gem built from 1708 by Alexandre Le Blond for the Countess de Clermont-Lodève, in the second half of the 18th century it housed Count Grimod d'Orsay's art collection, one of the finest ever assembled. Extensively remodeled during the 2nd Empire by architect Louis Visconti, future creator of Napoleon's tomb at Les Invalides, the hotel was requisitioned by the French government in November 1944, then acquired from the Costa de Beauregard family in 1947. Since then, it has housed a number of government departments. Today, it is the headquarters of the Ministry of Relations with Parliament and Citizen Participation.
