Heritage Days / Matrimoine 2023 at the Palais de la Femme in Paris

On the occasion of Heritage Days in Paris, the Palais de la Femme will open its doors to the public for a special edition of Matrimoine activities on the weekend of September 16 and 17, 2023.

Every year, the Heritage Days invite you to explore our cultural treasures in a new light during September. Across Paris and Île-de-France, a diverse lineup—often free—offers visits, workshops, and activities held in iconic sites and lesser-known gems, all packed into an exceptional weekend. The upcoming 40th edition will take place on September 16 and 17, 2023, promising a fantastic array of exciting events. Museums, monuments, historic châteaux, but also embassies, government ministries, hospitals, fashion houses, and much more. Each year, numerous sites open their doors for this special occasion, delighting curious visitors and enthusiasts alike.

The Palais de la Femme has served for over 90 years as a facility of the Salvation Army, dedicated to social aid and community engagement. Located in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, this building, which showcases a blend of Art Deco and Neo-Classical architecture, was constructed in 1926 by architect Émile Thion to support women in need. Its design offers a living testament to the era in which it was built, reflecting the architectural trends of the time.

Today, this place serves as a sanctuary and a stepping stone for women facing hardship, providing shelter, compassionate support, and social programs to help them regain independence. The facility also features a daytime drop-in center, a community-based nursery, and a range of services dedicated to assisting women and families in need.
