Self-guided tour of the basilica
dominating Paris from Montmartre, the Basilica of the Sacré-Cœur is a gem of Romano-Byzantine architecture. Built between 1875 and 1914, its white travertine facade gleams in the sun and rewards visitors with a breathtaking panorama of the capital from its dome.
Inside, admire one of France’s largest gold mosaics depicting a triumphant Christ. A site of active worship with perpetual adoration since 1885, it welcomes both pilgrims and visitors.
Access to the basilica interior is free. The climb to the dome (paid) rewards effort with a 360° view. Open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. A must for anyone visiting Paris!
