For Heritage Days, the SNCF invites you to discover the Journées du Patrimoine, the Gare du Nord, on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 September 2025. Today Europe’s leading station and the world’s third, Gare du Nord welcomes around 700,000 travelers every day and serves four European countries. With three RER lines and two Transilien lines, more than 2,100 trains run each day! Heritage Days are a wonderful opportunity for family discoveries, all completely free.
The oldest of Paris's major railway stations, opened in 1846 by the Compagnie des chemins de fer du Nord as a landing stage for the Paris-Nord-Lille line, the Gare du Nord is today the only one to have fully preserved its architecture, with its facade adorned with 23 monumental statues sculpted on site by artists of the time. These statues represent the main cities served by the company(Paris, London, Berlin, Frankfurt, Warsaw, Amsterdam, Vienna, Brussels, etc.).
A heritage in constant evolution
Discover the behind-the-scenes at Gare du Nord during the European Heritage Days!
Join a guided tour of one of Paris’s most iconic stations in this exceptional outing. This immersive experience will let you trace the station’s history—from its 19th-century origins to its pivotal role in today’s mobility landscape.
Along the route, you’ll map the major milestones of its architectural and operational evolution, as well as the transformations that will shape its future in the years ahead.
The tour will also open doors to spaces usually closed to the public. You’ll have the chance to glimpse the station’s operations center—a true control room where passenger flows are managed daily and rail activities coordinated.
Between heritage, innovation and backstage discovery, this tour offers an unprecedented look at a site that welcomes more than 700,000 people every day.
