For the 2026 Heritage Days in Paris, the capital’s monuments and historic sites throw open their doors (often free) to reveal their secrets. Don’t miss this unmissable event, scheduled for the weekend of September 19–20, 2026, with the themes: "Heritage in Peril" and "Heritage of Photography."

For these Heritage Days 2026, taking place on September 19 and 20, a multitude of sites in the capital are being highlighted. In Paris, the monuments, libraries, colleges and high schools join museums and throw open their doors to the public for a day of extraordinary discoveries!

This year, the focus is on photographic heritage and endangered heritage, as we spotlight the regional jewels: from the Middle Ages to modern times, including Art Nouveau, the Renaissance, and the Second Empire. Each era and artistic movement has left its mark on France’s towns and could disappear if we don’t preserve it.

Throughout the weekend, guided tours, workshops and many other activities take us behind the scenes of the capital's most famous landmarks, to meet the players behind our heritage, unique in the world.

Many sites across Paris organize guided tours, workshops and other activities to enable us to discover places that are sometimes closed to the public. We can, for example, visit ministries, concert halls, museums, or even companies that are exceptionally opening their doors to us. Among the emblematic sites, some companies linked to transport or navigation will be offering themed tours, enabling us to better understand their historical and contemporary role.

Organized for the first time in 1984, the Journées du Patrimoine have become a key event in the cultural calendar, attracting millions of curious visitors every year. It's a chance to explore places that are often inaccessible, and to better understand the history that surrounds us. It's also an opportunity to celebrate living heritage, through routes and networks that have shaped France and Europe, and to rediscover the essential link between the capital and its maritime heritage.

The Journées du Patrimoine 2026 thus offer us the chance to embark on a cultural journey, guiding us along historic routes or along the waterways, as we encounter our shared heritage.
