Nestled in a quiet neighborhood, this 18th-century former farmstead is the last home of Léon Blum, a key figure in French politics and president of the Conseil du Front populaire in 1936. After his deportation to Buchenwald during the Seconde Guerre mondiale, he settled there in 1945 with his wife Jeanne. It is in this house, known as the Clos des Metz, that he spent the final years of his life, writing, reflecting and meeting with many personalities. He died there in 1950.
The tour offers a glimpse of a house that has stayed almost intact. The study-library where Léon Blum worked, the living areas, and the expansive garden have been preserved in the spirit Jeanne Blum wanted. The Léon Blum House opens free to the public for European Heritage Days on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
