During the Heritage Days, curious minds and budding historians have the chance to stroll through the capital and the Île-de-France region to learn more about the remarkable monuments that surround them. Over two days, September 19 and 20, 2026, a wide array of activities—often free—awaits you, whether you’re with family or friends, to discover churches, institutions, and unusual places!
In the Val-de-Marne, we head to Sucy-en-Brie, to discover le Haute-Maison Castle, a historic building from the 17th and 18th centuries. Since its purchase by the municipality in 1976, this edifice is no longer a private residence, as it now houses the Hôtel de Ville de Sucy-en-Brie! The site has medieval roots, originally hosting the "Maison de la Tour," ceded at the end of the 13th century by Dudon, the physician to King Saint Louis.
In 1893, the estate was acquired by Ludovic Halévy, a renowned academic and the librettist of Georges Bizet’s Carmen as well as Offenbach’s operettas. He hosted distinguished guests there, including the impressionist painter Edgar Degas. The façades and roofs of the château have been listed as Historic Monuments since 1980.
