The town of Noisiel is taking part in the Journées du Patrimoine 2023 (Heritage Days 20 23), telling the story of the former Menier chocolate factory and its Cité ouvrière, on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th September!
Noisiel, a small town of medieval origin in the Seine-et-Marne region, is home to a surprising and highly attractive piece of heritage. On the banks of the Marne River, you'll find the Menier Chocolate Factory and its Cité Ouvrière, remnants of France's great 19th-century industries.
Although the Chocolaterie stopped making chocolate in 1992, the site remains unique: Noisiel is home to an exceptional heritage, consisting of the Chocolaterie and the Cité Ouvrière, founded in 1898 to house 312 families in a healthy living environment - with agricultural estates, a school complex, retirement homes and even a private fire department. This "paternalistic system" has been listed as a historic site, so that theMenier Empire can be seen by all without risk of degradation.
Discover the richness of theformer Menier chocolate factory, a jewel of industrial architecture, on the occasion of the 40th Journées du Patrimoine, thanks to a program of exceptional visits (booking required):
