Are you a rail buff, passionate about trains and the world of railways? If so, we’ve got the perfect museum for you! Head to Seine-Saint-Denis, and more precisely Rosny-sous-Bois, to discover the Rosny Rail Museum on the occasion of Heritage Days 2026.
This little-known nugget is dedicated to the history of the railroads, from the late 19th century to the present day. The immersive museum features numerous installations, scale models, period objects, posters and signs, and even high-speed train components.
This museum is located under the Rosny-sous-Bois RER station, in formerly disused parts. Featuring dozens of antique exhibits, the museum's collection retraces the history of the railroads, and showcases model trains, reproductions of cockpits and country stations, and antiques.
There's no better way to visit this museum than during the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days ) ! This European cultural event gives us the opportunity to visit major museums, institutions and historic sites, as well as unsuspected treasures in our region. The Rosny Rail Museum isopening its doors to the public free of charge for this event, so let's make the most of it!
So mark your calendars for September 19 and 20, 2026, at the museum, for a discovery tour that should appeal to both young and old.
Visit to the Rosny-Rail Museum — Train Museum
ROSNY RAIL, an association founded in 1997 with the backing of SNCF (Regional Directorate of Paris-Est and the Transilien Division, formerly the Île-de-France Regional Passenger Services), the Musée Français du Chemin de Fer de Mulhouse (now the Cité du Train), the City of Rosny-sous-Bois, and the Noisy-le-Sec Railway Club, aims to run a museum that brings the history of the train to the public of Île-de-France—especially school groups—exploring its past, its role in the present economy, and its future prospects.
ROSNY RAIL also seeks to encourage Île-de-France residents to visit Mulhouse and tour the Cité du Train, with whom the association maintains a close relationship, particularly in museum presentation.
This association ensures the museum and its facilities are well maintained, and it handles the acquisition, conservation, and enhancement of railway artefacts and equipment exhibited—owned both by the museum and by third parties.
Until recently, ROSNY RAIL managed all these activities with a determined spirit—keeping a track, alas too short, in operation for both a motorised draisine and a hand-powered vehicle that relies on visitors' own effort to move it.
