For these Journées du Patrimoine 2026, which will take place on September 19 and 20, numerous sites across the capital will be highlighted. In Paris, the monuments, libraries, colleges and high schools join the museums and throw open their doors to the public, for a day of incredible discoveries!
This year, the focus is on photographic heritage and endangered heritage, to spotlight the gems of every region: from the Middle Ages to modern times, through Art Nouveau, the Renaissance, and the Second Empire, each era and each artistic movement has left its mark on the towns of France, and could disappear if it is not preserved.
Throughout the weekend, guided tours, workshops and many other activities will take us behind the scenes of the capital's most iconic sites, to meet the custodians of our heritage, unique in the world.
Across Paris, numerous sites are staging guided tours, workshops, and other activities that let visitors discover places that are often off-limits. For instance, you can drop by ministries, performance venues, museums, or companies that are opening their doors to the public on special occasions. Among the emblematic venues, some transport or navigation firms will offer thematic tours, helping you better understand their historical significance and contemporary role.
First held in 1984, the Heritage Days have become a flagship event on the cultural calendar, drawing millions of curious visitors each year. The occasion lets us explore places that are often off limits and gain a deeper understanding of the history that surrounds us. It is also an opportunity to celebrate the living heritage, through itineraries or networks that have shaped France and Europe, as well as to rediscover the essential link between the capital and its maritime heritage.
The Heritage Days 2026 thus offer a chance for a cultural journey, guiding us along historic routes or waterways as we discover our shared heritage.
