As part of the theme “Heritage in Danger” and the 200th anniversary of photography, the Society for History and Archaeology of Charenton-Saint-Maurice (SHACSM) invites you to a talk focused on the patronage societies and holiday camps that shaped Charenton’s youth in the 20th century.
Through a selection of postcards and historical photographs kept by the Municipal Archives, the presentation invites audiences to glimpse a facet of local history while highlighting the fragility of photographic collections and the importance of their preservation.
This conference will be complemented by a looping slideshow shown all day in the Town Hall (Séguier hall), presenting additional items from these collections.

Visit to the Heritage and Photography Mediatheque, showcasing its collections
The MPP opens its doors for free guided tours of its collections in Charenton-le-Pont (11 rue du Séminaire de Conflans). Tours are organized in groups of about ten people, lasting 1.5 to 2 hours, starting at 10:00, with the last entries at 17:00.
Beyond the permanent exhibition showcasing the MPP’s missions and collections (self-guided visit), you’ll discover national heritage treasures and the Ministry of Culture’s rich photographic collections.
Once again this year, portable fresco demonstrations and a briefing on the technique and art of wall painting, organized with the Pari(s) Affresco association, will take place in the hall.
The MPP has been based since 2008 on the former site of the Conflans seminary. This National Service (SCN), under the administration of the Monuments historiques, is tasked with collecting, conserving and promoting the archives of Monuments historiques and Archaeology, which include 11 kilometers of archival records and 310,000 plans, among them 44,000 watercolors. In addition, the MPP is Europe’s largest photographic-archives service, housing twenty-five million negatives and prints.
