Due to recent bad weather, the Seine is overflowing its banks in Paris. According to Vigicrues, the Seine has risen by almost 70 cm, submerging some passages and raising boats and barges.

The level of the Seine has risen in Paris. "In Paris, the trend is downwards for this Sunday and the beginning of the week. The maximum was reached yesterday at the Paris station at 3.65m. This is a low water level", explains Vigicrues, which on Monday placed the capital under yellow vigilance for risk of flooding.

The famous Zouave will certainly not have his feet in the water. On Saturday January 11, the Seine reached its maximum level at the Pont d'Austerlitz. This Monday morning, walkers and passers-by, as well as sports enthusiasts and local residents, are forced to take detours to avoid flooded areas. According to Vigicrues forecasts, the Seine should begin to recede early this week.

Station Vigicrues declared this Monday morning:"The water level recently recorded by Vigicrues on Monday January 13 at 07:40 in Paris (Austerlitz) was 3.3 metre(s). Over the past hour, we have seen little change in the water level, reflecting a stable situation. It should also be noted that, according to Vigicrues, the river Seine is still under yellow vigilance in Paris (Austerlitz), indicating a worrying situation."

As a reminder, other departments in theÎle-de-France region are at risk of flooding this Monday, January 13. Météo France has placed Paris, Val d'Oise and Yvelines under yellow alert for flood risk.

A giant basin in Seine-et-Marne, the Seine Bassée pilot reservoir, is being tested this Monday, January 13, 2025, informs Lyonne, to help protect Paris from major floods. Located in the Bassée valley, this 360-hectare structure, designed by the Seine Grands Lacs public establishment, aims to retain part of the Seine's water and reduce its level by up to 15 cm, depending on the intensity of the flood. This test marks a key stage in the Île-de-France region's flood prevention system, recalling the effectiveness of reservoir lakes such as Pannecière in the Morvan region. By combining innovation and risk management, this basin meets the growing challenges of climate change, while strengthening the capital's resilience to flooding.
