From May 1, 2024, Parisians and Ile-de-France residents, like all French people, face a host of changes, with notable adjustments in healthcare, energy and training. Find out what's changing this May.

May 1, 2024 marks the start of several important changes for the French. New provisions come into force this Wednesday, covering areas such as health, energy, education and administrative procedures. We take a look at all the changes that could have a significant impact on your savings.

Revaluation of social benefits

From May 6, 2024, benefits such as the RSA, the prime d'activité, and the allocation adulte handicapé (AAH) will see an increase of 4.6%. This increase, calculated quarterly, will be fully effective between April and September, depending on the income declaration period.

Increase in the price of medical consultations

Out-of-pocket expenses for medical consultations are rising. This flat-rate contribution will apply to every medical act, although certain groups, such as minors and pregnant women, will remain exempt. The Journal Officiel has just announced that, as of May 15, the fixed contribution to healthcare costs will be €2. This sum will be systematically deducted from reimbursements. From now on, each medical act, whether a consultation, a biological analysis or an X-ray examination, will incur an additional cost of €2. However, this annual flat-rate contribution will not exceed €50 per person. According to the MoneyVox website, beneficiaries of maternity insurance, complementary health insurance and minors will be exempt from this charge.

Rising gas prices

The benchmark price of natural gas for cooking and heating will rise slightly in May. The average kWh for cooking will be €0.11061, while for heating it will be €0.08940.

Modification of MaPrimeRenov' access

From May 15, the MaPrimeRenov' scheme will be more accessible. Beneficiaries will be able to apply without having to provide an energy performance diagnosis (DPE), particularly for insulation work or boiler replacement.

Additional costs for the Personal Training Account (CPF)

From May 1, use of the CPF to finance training will be subject to a €100 contribution, except in the case of jobseekers or where the employer contributes to the training.

Electoral registration and tax returns

Registration to vote in the European elections is open until May 1. The tax return campaign for 2023 closes on May 21 for paper returns.

Student grants: final deadline for the start of the 2024 academic year

The deadline for submitting student scholarship and housing applications for the start of the 2024 school year is coming up. Applications must be submitted by May 31, 2024. The public service offers a scholarship simulator to help applicants check their eligibility before proceeding with the application. This step is free, but essential for financial planning for the academic year ahead. This information aims to prepare students for a smooth transition to higher education, by providing them with the financial support they need to fulfill their academic ambitions.

The arrival of Pass navigo on iPhone

Forget the plastic card that clutters your wallet: the Navigo pass will soon be available directly on the iPhone. By the end of May 2024, Apple users should be able to use their smartphone or Apple Watch to travel on the Île-de-France Mobilités network.

In short, take note of the changes and don't be caught off guard. Check out what's changing for you and what you need to do this May 2024.
