Since January 2025, five tram lines have been real fare traps for occasional travelers. On lines T4, T11, T12, T13, and T14, passengers had to validate a €2.50 "metro-train-RER" ticket instead of the €2 "bus-tram" ticket. This exception particularly affected the T12 between Massy and Évry-Courcouronnes, as well as the T13 in the Yvelines. For many users, this difference in pricing remained incomprehensible and a source of frequent errors.
To enable this harmonization, Île-de-France Mobilités had to rethink connections to these tram lines. The main challenge concerned stations where RER and trams run side by side without gates between the two modes of transport. This is particularly the case at Massy-Palaiseau, where RER lines B and C share tracks with the T12 tram. The installation of new validation equipment required several months of work to prevent fraud while simplifying the passenger experience.
This measure is part of the fare revolution launched on January 1, 2025, by Île-de-France Mobilités. This introduced two single tickets: the €2.50 metro-train-RER ticket and the €2 bus-tram ticket, replacing the previous 50,000 fare combinations. The aim was to simplify travel by removing the old fare zones in favor of a fare system based on mode of transport.
If you're looking for a good deal to get around Île-de-France without breaking the bank, the Navigo Liberté+ passremains the most economical solution. With journeys costing €1.60 on buses and trams, and €1.99 on the metro, RER and trains, you also benefit from free connections between modes of transport.
In short, from November 25, you will finally be able to take any tram in the Paris region with the same €2 ticket. This welcome simplification will put an end to years of confusion for occasional travelers.
