Commémoration of May 8 in Paris: the list of Metro stations closed this Friday

This Friday marks the 81st anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, May 8, 1945. On this occasion, several ceremonies will be held in the capital, notably near the Arc de Triomphe. To ensure the events run smoothly, the RATP has announced the closure of five Metro stations on line 1. Traffic will also be partially disrupted on line 6. Here’s what you need to know.

This historic date triggers numerous commemorations across France each year. This 8 May 2026, marks the 81st anniversary of the Victory on May 8, 1945. In Paris, several commemorations are organized for the occasion, notably at the Arc de Triomphe, while the city’s emblematic victory sites (the statue of General Leclerc, the General de Latre de Tassigny memorial, and the statue of General de Gaulle) are also laid with flowers by the City every May 8.

To ensure the smooth progression of these ceremonies, the RATP announces the closure of several metro stations, "at the request of the Police Prefecture." In detail, five stations on line 1 will be inaccessible on May 8, effective from the start of service. Specifically, the Argentina station (line 1), Charles de Gaulle – Étoile (lines 1, 2 and 6, RER A), George V (line 1), Franklin D. Roosevelt (lines 1 and 9), and Champs-Élysées – Clemenceau (lines 1 and 13) will be closed this Friday.

Another disruption planned for May 8 due to these commemorations? On the Line 6, service is suspended between Kléber and Charles de Gaulle-Étoile, also from the start of the shift. "Reopening of stations and the resumption of service will be carried out with authorization from the Prefecture of Police," the RATP says.

  • George V: station access closed
  • Franklin D. Roosevelt: station access closed; transfers within the station are not possible
  • Champs-Élysées – Clemenceau: station access closed; transfers within the station are not possible

Line 2

  • Charles de Gaulle – Étoile: the station is not served

Line 6

  • Traffic disrupted between Charles de Gaulle–Étoile and Kléber

Line 9

  • Franklin D. Roosevelt: station access closed, transfers inside the station impossible

Line 13

  • Champs-Élysées – Clémenceau: station access closed, transfers within the station impossible

RER A

  • Charles de Gaulle – Étoile: the station is not served

Moreover, it should be noted that due to works, traffic is disrupted until May 12 inclusive on the Line 3 of the metro, between Gallieni and Gambetta. On the RER B, no train runs between Gare du Nord and Charles de Gaulle 2–TGV • Mitry–Claye, from Friday, May 8 to Sunday, May 10 inclusive.
