It's a magnificent museum, set in an unspoilt, flower-filled green setting. A place sheltered from the passage of time, it takes us on a wonderful journey, from prehistory to the present day. The Musée Municipal des Capucins is housed in a former convent, in thechurch of Notre-Dame des Anges, built in 1617 by Catherine de Gonzague, Duchesse de Longueville.
In this place where art and spirituality meet, you can admire an exceptional shell grotto with religious iconography. Listed as a historic monument, this Italian-inspired funerary chapel regularly hosts temporary exhibitions, and features numerous works tracing the history of the town of Coulommiers since prehistoric times .
On display is a collection of paintings dating from the 16th century to the present day, depicting the Château de Coulommiers through the centuries. Religious objects and works of art , pieces from the Industrial Revolution, objects from the Empire period, photographs... The museum's collections are astonishingly rich and diverse, providing a snapshot of this beautiful region through the ages.
This Saturday, May 17, 2025, for the latest edition of the Nuit des Musées, we're off to visit this little-known museum for an evening at the heart of art.
