A little slice of Sweden in Paris: that's what you’ll find behind the doors of the Hôtel de Marle, home to the Swedish Institute and its charming garden, in the heart of the capital.
This place of culture is well worth a visit: its facades, its roofs "à la Philibert Delorme" (semi-circular with a counter-curve at the ridge) and its grand staircase are listed as Monuments Historiques. The Institut also showcases rich collections of Swedish artists and Franco-Swedish links.
Of course, it's impossible to talk about the Institut without mentioning its verdant garden, sheltered from the hustle and bustle of Paris, and its classical bronze statues.
So we won’t hesitate any longer: this Saturday, May 23, 2026, during the 22nd edition of the Night of Museums, you can travel with ease (as far as the Marais) to discover this beautiful Nordic country. Enjoy the Swedish Institute’s various activities, learn and have fun thanks to the many talented artists showcased during this nocturnal event.
As every year, Museum Night offers a chance to explore everything that happens behind the walls of the Swedish Institute. Guided tours on a continuous loop will take you through the exhibition "Open Forms" — Olle Bærtling in dialogue with seven contemporary artists.
The exhibition presents nearly three decades of work by painter and sculptor Olle Bærtling (1911-1981), an iconic figure of abstraction, in dialogue with the works of seven international artists: Cécile Bart, Rana Begum, Ulla von Brandenburg, Jacob Dahlgren, Bernd Ribbeck, Bella Rune and Brooklin A. Soumahoro. Through a range of approaches and media, they renew geometric abstraction and challenge its relevance today.
Guided tours of about twenty minutes are offered from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., following this schedule:
6:00 PM // 6:30 PM // 7:00 PM // 7:30 PM // 8:00 PM // 8:30 PM // 9:00 PM // 9:30 PM
As every year, Museum Night is the perfect opportunity to explore what unfolds beyond the walls of the Swedish Institute. Drop-in guided tours will help you discover the permanent exhibition focused on the artistic and societal revolutions of the 18th century.
This display shines a light on little-known treasures from the collection and delves into the currents of thought, the aspirations, and the tensions that defined the Enlightenment.
To discover these three exhibitions, guided tours of about twenty minutes are offered from 6pm to 9:30pm at the following times:
6pm // 7pm // 8pm // 9pm
As with every year, Museums Night offers a chance to glimpse what goes on inside the Swedish Institute. Ongoing guided tours will lead you through the exhibition "Cecilia Edefalk. August Said!."
Cecilia Edefalk is one of the indispensable voices in contemporary Swedish art. Since the 1980s, she has built an intuitive, personal practice that, starting from preexisting images and figurative forms, gradually leans toward a more abstract expression. Her work blends memories, visions, motifs drawn from art history, and elements of nature.
Twenty-minute guided tours are available from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., at the following times:
18:30 // 19:30 // 20:30 // 21:30
A great opportunity to discover a fascinating culture and have some fun! Shall we go?
