La Nuit des Musées, the free event that highlights the finest cultural addresses at nightfall, is back in Paris and the Île-de-France region for a new edition this Saturday, May 18, 2024! This unique evening offers visitors a pass through France's must-see heritage museums and institutions, in a bewitching and mysterious atmosphere. The late hour accentuates the magical atmosphere in the exhibition halls and art galleries, revealing the works in a whole new light. And to make the moment even more special, activities such as guided tours and art workshops often punctuate this special night, allowing visitors to immerse themselves even deeper in history and art.
Looking for an unusual place to spend this Nuit des Musées 2024? Head for the Maison de Fer, an atypical all-metal villa nestling in the heart of the Parc Meissonier in Poissy (78). Built in 1896 using a system devised by Belgian engineer Joseph Danly, it is one of the last remaining examples of experimental industrial architecture. Listed as a Monument Historique, the Maison de Fer is a landmark of Poissy's heritage.
After being abandoned and blown down by the storm of 1999, the town of Poissy acquired its remains in 2016 with a view to rebuilding it identically, in the heart of Parc Meissonier. Thanks to sponsorship and subsidies, the Maison de Fer will open its doors in 2020, inviting the public to discover its architecture and heritage interpretation center. The monument is also part of the city's architectural itinerary, which includes the collegiate church, Musée du Jouet and Villa Savoye.
On the evening of May 18, free guided tours will be available every hour from 6pm to 10pm, lasting 45 minutes. The Maison de Fer will also be open to the public from 6pm to 10:45pm. An opportunity to discover the history of Poissy's heritage and the temporary exhibition "Villa Modernes, le Corbusiuer, Bourgeois, deux architectes à Poissy.
