The Nuit des musées is an exceptional cultural event, giving the general public the chance to discover the collections of the many museums in the Île-de-France region in a different light, with an astonishing nocturnal atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy current exhibitions, often free of charge, discover works of art, take advantage of exceptional and varied activities for all ages, and learn more about the behind-the-scenes aspects of museums.
You can also discover the Ile-de-France region, and in particular Seine-Saint-Denis, at the Musée d'Art et d'Histoire de Saint-Denis. Dedicated to local art and history, the museum features an archaeological collection of 600 objects, including the remains of a Merovingian necropolis and objects from daily life in the Middle Ages (food, music, games...), as well as a Paul Eluard collection, made up of gifts from the poet to his native town.
Intrigued by this vast collection? Come and discover it on Saturday, May 23, 2026: for the 22nd edition of the Nuit des Musées, the Paul Éluard Museum of Art and History in Saint-Denis invites you to several original cultural events. An unusual, free evening not to be missed!
Who was Saint Denis? Where did he come from and what did he do to earn a city named after him? Some say he carried his head under his arm as he walked! Part legend, part fact, his story awaits discovery in the museum’s archaeological galleries. The visit ends with the creation of a mini comic book.
From 6 years old.
Presenting the work of Paul Éluard in a former 17th‑century Carmelite monastery is a choice that invites questions. Yet everything ties back to the history of Saint-Denis, a town that has undergone countless transformations from the building of the first Merovingian basilica to the present day, including the 19th‑century industrial revolution. The museum’s collections trace this journey, even the Paris Commune ones! This visit helps connect the threads and discover the emblematic objects on display.
The museum unveils a new medicinal herb garden. The final plantings and cuttings will be carried out by everyone for Museum Night.
Note! Tours every 30 minutes from 4:00 p.m.
New and exclusive! How does a 400-year-old building live? What happens behind doors that are normally closed to the public? This exceptional tour takes visitors into the museum’s reserves, where the collections are preserved and processed. It also offers a glimpse of the roof restoration project—the essential, major works that will span several years.
The Resonance Choir and the Conservatory of Saint-Denis’ Young Polyphonic Choir, written by Nathalie-Josée Audonnet, present Romantic-era musical interludes. Piano accompaniment by Stéphane Salort.
With so much going on, it'll be impossible to stay at home this Saturday! Book your evening to make sure you don't miss a thing!
