The 41st edition of the Fête de la musique! Every year, this popular and festive event celebrates live music with free concerts all over France.
So, how did the Fête de la Musique come about? In 1982, a major survey of French cultural practices revealed that five million people, including one young person in two, played a musical instrument, whereas the musical events organized up to that point had only involved a minority of French people. With this in mind, Jack Lang, Minister of Culture at the time, Christian Dupavillon, architect and scenographer, and Maurice Fleuret, appointed Director of Music and Dance in 1981, came up with the idea of a major popular event designed to give all musicians a chance to express themselves and make themselves known. The very first Fête de la Musique took place on June 21, 1982, the symbolic day of the summer solstice.
More than 40 years later, the traditional Fête de la Musique continues to make people happy every June 21, thanks to its rich and eclectic musical program. So what can we expect this year? While there's no shortage of good music deals in Paris, there's also plenty to choose from elsewhere in the Île-de-France region.
In the Yvelines region, for example, the town of Versailles has teamed up with Nuits Blondes to offer an exclusive evening of unmissable free concerts on the Place du Marché Notre-Dame on Wednesday June 21, 2023, starting at 7pm. The evening will feature the singer Sauvan, the duo Pausé, and the female duo Apollon, winners of the Versailles live 2022 music competition.
Of course, admission to these concerts is free and open to all!
