Every June 21, music resounds throughout France at the Fête de la Musique. A popular and festive event that has become a "must" for many French people, the Fête de la Musique was launched for the very first time on June 21, 1982, at the instigation of Jack Lang, Minister of Culture at the time, Maurice Fleuret and Christian Dupavillon, architect-scenographer and member of the Cabinet. At the time, they wanted to give birth to a major popular event enabling all musicians to play and make a name for themselves during a festive evening.
More than 40 years later, the Fête de la Musique has become an integral part of many people's cultural calendar. It's worth noting that there are plenty of free concerts on this day. Jazz, pop, metal, rock, rap, RnB, electro, classical... all styles are featured in the streets, of course, but also in squares, gardens and parks, and in museums.
