Note: due to the red heatwave alert, some events of the Fête de la musique 2026 may be cancelled, postponed or altered. Check the information before you go.
The Fête de la Musique returns on Saturday, June 21, 2026! On that day, both amateur and professional musicians pay homage to living music and flood the streets with free concerts across a spectrum of styles (rock, hip-hop, jazz, classical, electro, etc.), while also offering more original, quirky, or offbeat musical events.
As a reminder, the Fête de la Musique was created in 1982 at the initiative of the Ministry of Culture. That year, the Ministry’s Studies and Research Department carried out a major survey on the cultural practices of the French. It revealed that five million people, including one in two young people, play a musical instrument. From there, a grand popular celebration was envisioned with the aim of giving all musicians a chance to express themselves and gain recognition. The very first Fête de la Musique was launched on June 21, 1982, a symbolic midsummer day.
And the turnout did not disappoint: that year, dozens of musicians took to streets, squares, kiosks, courtyards, gardens, stations, and places to let their music be heard.
It was in 1985 that the Fête de la Musique began to go international, for the European Year of Music. By 2017, more than 120 countries around the world were taking part in the Fête de la Musique!

Since then, the Music Day has grown a lot! Next June 21, for the 2026 edition of the Music Day, if you don’t feel like going where everyone goes, if you want to get off the beaten path, or have an original and offbeat outing, pick from this selection of great deals and quirky free concerts not to miss in Paris and Île-de-France!
