When I say June 21, what do you reply? Music Day of course! Like every year on that very date, budding musicians and amateur singers are dusting off their instruments and tackling the songs of their idols for a day that’s as festive as it is welcoming.
Just a quick reminder: it was in 1982 that the country launched the Music Day. The event was born at the time under the impulse of Jack Lang, then the Culture Minister, alongside Maurice Fleuret and Christian Dupavillon, an architect-scénographer and cabinet member. Their idea was simple: kick off a large, popular celebration that allows all musicians to perform and make a name for themselves during a festive evening.
More than 40 years after its launch, the Fête de la musique continues to echo every June 21 across France. And on June 21, Paris is filled with great deals, from free concerts in iconic or quirky venues to open-air shows by the water or in a park! All genres are celebrated—from rock, rap, and electro to classical and zouk—ensuring everyone can find something to love.
If you're after an offbeat event for the occasion, insolite , we recommend heading to the famous Pigalle district. It’s here, more precisely on Rue des Martyrs, that the folks at Madame Arthur plan to celebrate the 44th edition of the Fête de la musique.
Throughout the year, this legendary cabaret in Paris’s 18th arrondissement delivers unprecedented experiences to its audiences, thanks to its dreamlike creatures and its spellbinding themed evenings.
This Sunday, June 21, 2026, for the new Music Day, artists from Madame Arthur will help liven up the entire Rue des Martyrs from the cabaret’s windows. Meet from 5 to 7 p.m., and be sure to look up to enjoy the show!
