Every year it’s the same tune: summer arrives, and France becomes an open-air concert hall. Yes, the Music Day is back this Sunday, June 21, 2026! A popular event open to everyone, one we wouldn’t miss for the world.
Did you know: the fête de la musique was launched in 1982 in France by Culture Minister Jack Lang and Maurice Fleuret, the ministry’s director of music and dance. This major national event aims to celebrate music in all its forms and to create a shared moment between artists (professional or amateur) and the public.
Thus, in Paris for Music Day, people enjoy concerts on every street corner, in parks, at landmarks, along the banks of the Seine, or in bars... Throughout the day, the music echoes everywhere!
But on this June 21, 2026, getting around to enjoy all these events won't be easy. Because of the cultural festival and several activities planned for this Sunday, the RATP will close some of its metro stations starting at 4 p.m. Lines will continue to run, but the stops will not be served, and some connections cannot be made at those stations.
Don’t worry—the party isn’t ending that early. In fact, you can keep dancing and singing all night long. Some Metro and RER lines run around the clock through the night of June 21–22; here are the ones that stay open.
