It’s an event that fans of live music look forward to every year! The Fête de la Musique is back across France on Sunday, June 21, 2026. It’s a chance to enjoy a whole day of free concerts. Whether you’re into rock, rap, electronic music, classical, jazz, zouk, French pop, pop, metal or blues... you’re sure to find something you love on June 21!
But what is the origin of the Fête de la musique in France? In October 1981, Jack Lang, then Minister of Culture, appointed Maurice Fleuret as director of music and dance. In 1982, the Culture Ministry’s research department launched a survey into the cultural practices of the French. It found that one young person in two played a musical instrument. Jack Lang, Christian Dupavillon, a member of his Cabinet, and Maurice Fleuret then came up with the idea of a major public event. The aim? To give all musicians a chance to express themselves and gain recognition. The first Fête de la musique was held on June 21, 1982, the symbolic day of the summer solstice.
Since then, Music Day has continued to fill the air with live music every June 21. So this Sunday, get ready to feel the beat on every corner of Paris, including the 10th arrondissement, where a block party awaits!
Head to La Caserne, to be precise. Several artists will take the stage here on June 21, 2026, from 7 p.m. to midnight. Look out for rapper RnBoi and singer Miimii KDS, along with DJ sets by the Sssound collective, joined by DJ NAS, Seade and Kayefuru. And the icing on the cake: Tiakola joins the lineup for a DJ Sound System Show!
