The 2023 Nuit Blanche promises to be an unforgettable event — and for good reason! This annual celebration of contemporary art transforms the City of Light into a sprawling open-air museum, offering Parisians and visitors alike the chance to explore a dazzling array of artistic installations in the most unexpected venues. With a vibrant and diverse lineup, the Nuit Blanche provides an immersive cultural experience for everyone, from young to old, where art becomes both accessible and astonishing.
At the heart of this event, on the northeastern tip of Île Saint-Louis in the 4th arrondissement, lies the installation Sunset in Paris by artists Ludmila Rodrigues and Mike Rijnierse. Both are captivated by the human perception and how it’s shaped. Based in The Hague, Netherlands, Rodrigues and Rijnierse have been working together since 2011, creating immersive pieces where viewers become active participants, engaging with their own sensations to build a mental image of the artwork. Sunset in Paris is a large floating installation that recreates the daily experience of watching the sunset amid the Parisian cityscape, stretching this fleeting moment across the entire night.
The installation offers a contemplative yet disorienting journey through space and time, inviting viewers to reawaken their senses—seeing, hearing, and feeling anew. A luminous sculpture of the sun sets permanently over the Seine, at the tip of Île Saint-Louis, evoking a dreamlike and poetic atmosphere. Supported by LVMH and with the participation of the Netherlands Embassy, Sunset in Paris is undoubtedly one of the must-see artworks during Nuit Blanche 2023. Come experience this one-of-a-kind moment where art intertwines seamlessly with the urban landscape, in the most beautiful way.
