For Nuit Blanche 2023, the City of Light is lighting up its iconic institutions and popular spots across Paris, but also some charming gardens and squares nestled within the city. One such jewel is the Square du Vert Galant. Located on the Île de la Cité in the heart of Paris, it was named in honor of Henri IV, nicknamed the "Green Gallant" because of his reputation as a ladies’ man. The garden was created in the 17th century under the direction of architect Claude Chastillon and has undergone several transformations over the centuries. In the 18th century, new trees and flower beds were added. During the French Revolution, the space fell into neglect and was used as a playground. In the 19th century, architect Alphonse de Gisors redesigned it in a romantic style, with winding paths, groves, and a central fountain. Today, the square is a beloved spot where Parisians and visitors alike relax, picnic, and enjoy sweeping views. Considered one of Paris’s most beautiful gardens, it offers a true oasis of peace amidst the urban hustle and bustle!
