This year, once again, numerous venues are taking part in Nuit Blanche, including l’Ircam. Nestled just a few steps from the Centre Pompidou, l’Ircam was founded in 1977. Its mission? To foster an interaction between scientific research, technological development, and contemporary musical creation. It is therefore no surprise that the venue is taking part in this new edition of the Nuit Blanche.
So, what’s on the agenda for June 6, 2026 at l’Ircam? The venue invites us to journey through a brand-new artistic installation, presented in the projection space of l’Ircam, located in the heart of the building on Place Stravinsky.
Created under the direction of Pierre Boulez and closed for eight years, this projection space isn't like your average concert and performance venue. Nestled 16 meters underground and isolated within a nested architectural system of boxes, l’Espace de projection is a modular venue with variable acoustics. If you haven’t stepped inside yet, this is your chance to discover this extraordinary place while enjoying Nuit Blanche 2026.
The Centre Pompidou is showcasing Skylight (2022) exceptionally—a solid-light installation by Anthony McCall in collaboration with composer and musician David Grubbs. Building on McCall’s ongoing exploration of the volumetric properties of the light medium that defines his work, Skylight incorporates a sonic dimension.
Light and sound share common physical properties: they travel through space and time, shape their contours, and reveal architecture. The soundscape crafted by David Grubbs, produced in close collaboration with the artist—whose dramaturgy Draws on the form of a storm—extends and amplifies these spatial qualities, delivering an experience that is simultaneously visual, acoustic, and bodily.

As part of the ManiFeste Festival, the Centre Pompidou – National Museum of Modern Art invites Anthony McCall to take over the Projection Space at IRCAM to present "Skylight" (2022), a solid-light installation created in collaboration with composer and musician David Grubbs.
A major figure in contemporary art, Anthony McCall has, since the early 1970s, developed a radical, highly innovative body of work that sits at the crossroads of cinema, sculpture, and installation. Since the 2000s he has been creating large-scale digital installations.
Building on the research into the volumetric properties of the light medium that characterizes McCall’s entire oeuvre, "Skylight" adds an accompanying sonic dimension. Light and sound share common physical traits: they move through space and time, define its boundaries, and reveal its architecture. The soundscape crafted by David Grubbs, conceived in close collaboration with the artist and inspired by the drama of a storm, extends and intensifies these spatial qualities, offering an experience that is simultaneously visual, auditory, and embodied.
In partnership with the ManiFeste-2026 Festival at IRCAM and the Constellation of the Centre Pompidou.
With the support of the AXA Foundation for Human Progress, a major patron of IRCAM, and the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
Curated by Jonathan Pouthier, National Museum of Modern Art - Centre Pompidou.
