We’re pulling out the calendar for the weekend of June 6–7, 2026, at the Villarceaux regional estate, located in Chaussy in the Val-d'Oise (95), which over two days becomes a playground for history lovers. This 15th edition of the Historiques de Villarceaux is completely free and open to all, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. From the base of the Saint-Nicolas Tower to the 18th‑century château’s music salon, you walk through several centuries of history, guided by the various activities.
One must admit the setting is tailor-made for the occasion. Nestled in a 70-hectare park, the Villarceaux estate brings together two iconic châteaux: a 13th‑century manor and an elegant 18th‑century building classified as a historic monument. It’s in this somewhat unlikely frame, between ponds, hoop skirts and gardened grounds labeled as remarkable, that the Amis de Villarceaux organise each year their grand costume event. As soon as you pass the entrance gate, the sound of a jig directs you toward a medieval encampment at the foot of the Saint-Nicolas Tower. Knights chat with an herbalist, the blacksmith hammers away, and you find yourself watching the scene with that pleasing sense of having slipped into another time.
The 2026 program spans a broad swath of history, from the Middle Ages through the 19th century. Several groups dedicated to historical reenactment will bring the site to life over the two days. The Fleur de Lys company offers its cape-and-sword performances at the Basin des Huit Jets, with multiple shows each day. The legendary Île-de-France ballet presents 18th‑century Baroque dances in front of the Haut château, exclusively on Sunday. On the Viking front, two associations, Héritage Historique and the Clan d'Ivar, set up camps, craft workshops, and medieval combat demonstrations, with archery and axe-throwing activities for younger visitors. The musical ensemble Résonnez Musettes will perform in the château’s music salon starting at 2 p.m.
For children, AD Tempus’s wooden antique games are available all day on the lawn beside the vegetable garden. Storytelling with musicians is offered on Sundays in the courtyard of the communal buildings, and several groups wander through the park to animate the route.
The costume parade on Sunday at 4 p.m., bringing together volunteers and associations, is a must-see moment to witness all these faces gathered in front of Ninon’s manor.
In the commons courtyard, the artisan and producer market brings together lacemakers, wood-turners, blacksmiths, and potters, along with charcuterie, cheeses, pastries and bread from the Bergerie de Villarceaux. Visitors can eat on site, on the terrace or on the lawns.
This year, the magician Valjemiflo unveils an original show in the communal barn, weaving together the legend of Saint Victor and the Grimoire of Villarceaux, with performances on both days at 1 p.m., 3 p.m., and 5 p.m.
To extend your visit in a different way, Villarceaux's escape game offers an historical mystery trail by reservation (paid, for ages 8 and up), plunging players back into the atmosphere of the 17th century with Ninon de Lenclos.
The Historiques de Villarceaux return on June 6 and 7, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Villarceaux Regional Estate in Chaussy (95). Admission is free, and parking is complimentary as well (on the meadow due to the Vigipirate security plan). Accessible parking is available near the entrance for people with reduced mobility. Dogs on leashes are welcome. For those traveling without a car, Île-de-France Mobilités offers a demand-responsive service to the estate from Mantes-la-Jolie, bookable via the TàD app. By car from Paris, two routes are recommended: via the A14 or the A13 (exit Mantes Est, toward Beauvais), or via the A15 then the N14 (toward Magny-en-Vexin, exit Vernon/Hodent, then take the D86 toward Chaussy).
It’s a well‑considered outing for families with kids, medieval history buffs, and Île‑de‑France heritage enthusiasts alike, plus anyone seeking a green, free weekend escape in June. Bring comfortable shoes—the estate is explored on foot and not all the lawns are level. If you come on Sunday, stay for the 4 p.m. costumed parade. A word of caution: the drive from Paris isn’t trivial, so plan your route in advance.
