La Nuit Blanche is a major cultural event held every year on the first Saturday in June. Hundreds of exhibitions, performances, installations, concerts, shows and immersive activities transform Paris into an open-airmuseum.
From dusk until dawn, French and international artists take us into their worlds with free artistic events for all. From museum to church, park to Quai de Seine, square to theater, you'll be able to take advantage of all these special events, making this a truly unforgettable night.
This Saturday, June 6, 2026, on the occasion of the 25th edition of Nuit Blanche, we’re heading to the 19th arrondissement of Paris, and more precisely to the Place de la Bataille de Stalingrad, to discover a surprising and poetic installation.
This square closes off the bassin de la Villette: it was created in 1945 and has since been redesigned several times to ease movement, to incorporate the Villette Rotonde, and to install a large fountain... In June 2026, it will also become a temporary art gallery for the duration of this Nuit Blanche!
We Rise by Lifting Others, Monumental luminous installation, 2023
The work We Rise by Lifting Others (S’élever en élevant les autres) is a monumental light installation shaped like an ephemeral architecture, drawing inspiration from both Baroque gateways and the Luminarie, traditional festive illuminations of southern Italy. Made from metal frameworks and colored LED bulbs, it unfolds a rich, frontal, symmetrical composition organized around a broad central arch. Light is treated as a material in its own right: it traces the lines, builds the volumes, and reframes how the surrounding space is perceived. The central circular motif, reminiscent of a rose window, gathers a multitude of bright points that produce an effect both ornamental and immersive. The polychromy—blending blues, greens, yellows, and reds—gives the whole piece a visually immersive intensity. Several illuminated inscriptions traverse the structure, among them We Rise by Lifting Others. Integrated into the composition, this phrase acts as both graphic and textual element, engaging with the forms without losing its voice. Through this fusion of architecture, light, and language, the work presents itself as a large-scale luminous sculpture, temporarily transforming the space into a vivid visual and sensorial environment.
Building on the artist’s reflection on public spaces, this relational architecture creates a shared place that invites contemplation of social interactions and dynamics. Presented on Place de la Bataille-de-Stalingrad, a historic crossroads in northeastern Paris at the junction of the Canal Saint-Martin and the Bassin de la Villette, the installation takes on its full resonance. That site, alive with traffic and a diverse public, becomes a temporary hub for gathering and encounters, where light, architecture, and sociability converge. The work acts as a catalyst for social bonds and temporary communities, fully revealing the human and relational dimension of art in the city.
Marinella Senatore (born 1977 in Cava de’ Tirreni, Italy; lives and works in Rome) is a multidisciplinary artist trained in music, film, and fine arts. Her practice sits at the crossroads of sculpture, installation, and image, with a particular focus on light as a plastic material. She develops a visual language fed by popular and architectural references, while also reflecting on collective dynamics.
