Nuit Blanche returns to the Gaîté Lyrique in June 2023. An opportunity to attend the Carte Blanche given to Ukrainian label Standard Deviation!

Nuit Blanche is the must-attend nocturnal event in Paris and the Île-de-France region, taking place on Saturday June 3, 2023. This year's Nuit Blanche promises to be another memorable one, with a program of original exhibitions, installations and performances. It's an opportunity to discover the city of Paris through a new artistic lens, and to stroll through a veritable open-air gallery.

Among the event's key venues is the Gaîté Lyrique, which this year is giving Carte Blanche to Ukrainian label Standard Deviation. A landmark of Parisian cultural life, the Gaîté Lyrique is famous for offering a wide range of events and workshops within its modern auditorium. Initially dedicated to digital culture, it is now as much an art gallery as a concert hall and television recording studio.

For this edition of Nuit Blanche 2023, the Gaîté Lyrique transforms itself into a concert hall and audiovisual performance space, showcasing what are usually underground scenes. It's the perfect opportunity to discover a variety of musical styles, and to immerse yourself in the worlds of the featured artists!

Saturday June 3 is the date to remember for this exceptional event, where Art is the watchword.

The program for Nuit Blanche 2023 at the Gaîté Lyrique :

  • Afrotopiques: Thinking the economy from the South
    Thursday, June 06, 2024 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, May 02, 2024 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

One evening a month, the Afrotopiques podcast takes up residence at the Gaîté Lyrique, in public, with the "Penser l'économie depuis les Suds" recording series. This monthly meeting explores the plurality of economies and their power for social transformation. Hosted by Marie-Yemta Moussanang, the event is an opportunity for collective discussion on contemporary issues linking the North and the South. What if we could think of a way out of the ecological and social impasse based on the societies that have best resisted industrialization and capitalist-style development? What can we learn from non-wage-earning societies and their diverse economic practices? How can we imagine and build social justice on the basis of these territories and the alternatives they offer?
To answer these questions, Marie-Yemta Moussanang welcomes contemporary researchers and intellectuals who are working on these issues, drawing on experiences and theories that bring together the issues of the North and the South. On the program: Geneviève Pruvost, Lissell Quiroz, Danouta Liberski-Bagnoud, Jean-Louis Laville... and other guests.

La Déliche, Maria Mollarda, Tata Foxie and Crystal Châtaigne embark on a world where it's not necessarily the prince who saves the princess, where heroes are allowed to cry and heroines to travel the world! One Sunday a month, the drag queens of the Paillettes collective put down their heels at the Gaité Lyrique at tea time (because in "Gaîté" there's "thé"!) and tell their best stories with feathers and steam: princesses with moustaches, others who tame dragons, a long-haired frog who falls in love with a pink toad, a tiny knight, a cat who is a dog or a prince who falls in love with another prince... For everyone and the whole family, Contes à paillettes plunges us into a wacky and benevolent universe where a wind of freedom blows!

  • Europe in the eye of the storm
    Friday, May 17, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

ARTE and Grand Continent present a series of six interviews on the major challenges facing Europe, recorded in public and presented by Nora Hamadi at the Gaîté Lyrique.
At a time when the war in Ukraine is forcing the Union to ask itself fundamental questions about its influence, its sovereignty and even its very existence, Europeans are being called to the polls in June. In a series of interviews recorded in public, journalist Nora Hamadi talks to six thinkers specializing in the geopolitics of the continent about these elections, which are fraught with threats.
The reawakening of the superpowers, the return of high-intensity warfare in Ukraine and Gaza, the assertion of a "global South", Donald Trump's campaign in the United States, climate issues, the ecological and energy transition, technological disruption, feelings of declassification, the crisis of values (hospitality, humanism, equality)... All these challenges are putting Europe to the test at a time when it is going through a polycrisis: crisis of its place in the world, domestic crisis with the rise of populism, economic and social crisis against a backdrop of low growth, high inflation and growing inequality.
In order to understand this uncertain world, we need to find the keys to understanding it. ARTE and Grand Continent present L'Europe dans l'œil du cyclone, a series of 6 interviews on the major challenges facing Europe, recorded in public and presented by Nora Hamadi at the Gaîté Lyrique, as part of the Eu.topia programming sequence.

  • Europe and Sentiment
    Tuesday, June 25, 2024 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2024 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

War in Ukraine, record abstentions, the rise of the extremes, women's rights, minority representation, global warming, migration... Europe has never been so shaken and paradoxically so debated as it is today. In June 2024, more than 400 million voters will be called upon to cast their ballots for the 10th time in its history in the world's largest supranational election: the European elections.
The Europe et Sentiment podcast devotes its 3rd season to the European elections from the Plateau de la Gaîté Lyrique. Laetitia Chabannes welcomes European personalities and strangers to recount their first experience of these elections, from 1979 to the present day. These singular testimonies are an intimate and personal echo of the issues and developments that are running through our European society. Because taking an interest in Europe means taking an interest in all the issues that are shaping our society today: ecology, the place of minorities, enlargement, feminism, regionalism and autonomy, the future of democracy, and so on. It means imagining the future of our continent together.
So, why should you vote in 2024?

  • COALITION: 15 years of art and ecology
From Wednesday April 24, 2024 to Sunday June 02, 2024: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday from 09:00 to 22:00 Saturday, Sunday from 11:00 to 19:00

This monumental exhibition, enriched by a wide-ranging program, takes over the emblematic space of the Gaîté Lyrique under the curatorship of Lauranne Germond, co-founder and director of COAL, and Sara Dufour, curator and program director of the association. It brings together works and interventions by some fifty French, European and international artists, both renowned and emerging, men and women in equal numbers, including Angelika Markul, Shaun Gladwell, Hypercomf, Lucy+Jorge Orta, Art Orienté Objet, Fabiana Ex-Souza, Louis Guillaume, Shivay La Multiple, Paul Duncombe, Alex Cecchetti, Flatform, Anaïs Tondeur, Elsa Guillaume, Suzanne Husky, Martine Feipel et Jean Bechameil, Marie Velardi, Clément Richem, Martin Le Chevallier, Thierry Boutonnier, Beya Gilles Gacha, Erik Samakh, Laurent Tixador, Olivier Darné, Éléonore Saintagnan, Marina Gioti, Michael Wang, Momoko Seto, Sara Favriau, Stéfane Perraud et Aram Kebabdjian, Hehe and many others...
Together, they trace the community of imaginaries that has grown up over the 15 editions of the COAL Prize, COAL's flagship initiative for the promotion, support and dissemination of artists around the world who bear witness to, imagine and experiment with the ecological revolution. 15 years ago, bringing art and ecology together, and getting nature conservationists to collaborate with cultural players and artists, was not a matter of course. 15 years later, this rapprochement has become a necessity, exacerbated by the acceleration of environmental issues, which is encouraging in-depth reflection, restructuring and the invention of new ways of inhabiting the Earth. This exhibition presents a panorama of a generation of committed artists through projects that have marked the history of environmental art, and which represent a range of practices and ways of approaching the living through art and the sensitive, from witnessing to activism to community-building and resilience practices.
Testifying to a wide variety of artistic approaches - sculpture, painting, photography, installation, performance, documents - but also and above all participatory projects, protocols, rituals, somatic practices, research-creation, in situ creation, shared experiences... Works, performances and activations tell the story of a different relationship to nature, to materials, to all the components of the living, and invite us to glimpse the perspectives of a world beyond, through an experience marked by discovery and awakening.
    COAL
A benchmark association for art and ecology celebrating its 15th anniversary in 2024, COAL mobilizes artists in a multi-disciplinary spirit and
cultural players on societal and environmental issues, in collaboration with a wide range of public and private players, and supports the essential role of creation and culture in raising awareness and implementing concrete solutions. With over 100 international artists honored to date, the COAL Art and Environment Prize and the COAL Award are key initiatives for
the identification, promotion, support and dissemination of artists around the world who bear witness to, imagine and experiment with the ecological revolution. COAL is also behind nearly a hundred contemporary art exhibitions, cultural events and regional programs on the
ecological transition for major cultural structures and institutions in France and around the world, and contributes to the knowledge and dissemination of the theme through European cooperation schemes, the organization of numerous conferences and workshops, publications and a resource medium.

  • Seed, life, form
    Sunday, April 28, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

During a fun, participatory workshop, youngsters are invited to think about environmental issues and, more specifically, the regeneration process of living organisms, through experimentation. Louis Guillaume's workshops offer an opportunity to discover different plant materials: poplar flock, stipa tenuissima, hornet's nest... which the children learn to handle and shape together. Using the molding technique, they create an identifiable form, essentially made from these organic materials. Each experiment is linked to one of the pieces presented in the COALITION.... exhibition, and it's up to you to guess which one!
Louis Guillaume is an artist, an explorer, a walker, a self-taught researcher, an inventor guided by a single law, a single principle: that of the materials on which he has set his sights. His practice revolves around seasonal harvests: every month, he sets off on long walks in search of materials, in the countryside or the city, and returns with the foundations for his next works.

"30 ans avant" at the Gaîté Lyrique also features art, with a staged reading of Yulia Vishnevets's play "Attendre est plus difficile que d'enterrer", as well as the documentary film "Fixeurs de guerre : les invisibles du reportage", by directors Robin Grassi and Arnaud Froger, from the NGO Reporters Sans Frontières.

Troubles is a musical dazibao based around queer texts, which are fragments of poetry, activist or philosophical essays - written at different times and from different perspectives, but which articulate the idea of the possibilities of utopia in our hostile environment. Through texts by Dona Harraway, Françoise d'Eaubonne, Alana S. Portero, Mikki Kendall, Paul B. Preciado, Pedro Lemebel, Despentes - the collective seeks to establish a coincidence between prose read and music imagined to make it hypnotic. Guitarist Varoujan (Condense, Peuple de l'Herbe) joins them on stage.

After a concert-reading dedicated to Louis Calaferte's Requiem des Innocents, followed by the magnificent tribute to Pier Paolo Pasolini and Viril, (directed by David Bobée) Virginie Despentes, Béatrice Dalle, Casey and the group Zëro are back on the road with this new stage proposition.

Capucine Vever (born in 1986 in Paris, lives and works in Bobigny) develops contextual work interested in the notion of the invisible, the unattainable and the imperceptible. Whether geographical, social and/or cultural, territory is central to his artistic approach. Her practice attempts to engage with it in a poetic relationship, exploiting the narrative potential of each space. His works are based on collage, analogy and the constant friction between reality and fiction, scientific research and narrative, cartography and legend, displacement and immobility.

  • Who is Zouzou's friend?
    Saturday, June 15, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Based on his new album Qui est l'ami de Zouzou, published by Editions 2024, Hao Shuo invites children to choose an animal from among those in the book to try a new encounter with Zouzou. On the program: drawing, collage, scene creation and paper figures for this meeting between animals!
    About the book
Zouzou is a funny dog, with his happy face and his eyes buried under his long white fur. On a visit to the zoo, he arouses the curiosity of his animal companions... who see in this big ball of fur anything but a big dog. The seals spin him around like a ball, the elephant catapults him with its trunk... and here he is, attacked by a goat, tickled by marmosets, adopted by kangaroos! Sometimes at his own expense, Zouzou becomes the darling of the zoo! In these burlesque and refreshing pages, Shuo Hao, a young Chinese author living in Paris, continues to delight us with her humor, both tender and teasing, in the manner of a Benjamin Rabier or a Buster Keaton - with long hair in front of his eyes.
    About the author
Hao Shuo was born in China some thirty years ago. After studying at the Beaux-Arts in Beijing, she spent a few months at the Sorbonne and joined the illustration workshop at the Haute École des Arts du Rhin in Strasbourg. Always between two countries - and on a plane - she works with French and Chinese friends on the Hors Service micro-publishing collective. Guide de survie dans la jungle was her first book to be published in France, and won her an "Opera Prima" award at the prestigious Bologna Children's Book Fair. Since then, she has also explored the territories of photography, gouache painting and contemporary drawing with her monsters and hybrid creatures.

  • JUNIORE
Tuesday, October 08, 2024 from 7:30 pm to 11:30 pm

You may not know it (or you may not), but you've listened to Juniore many times. Their melodies have delicately carpeted the landscape of the last decade. Anonymous? Not quite. In all discretion, rather - Juniore has crossed the airwaves of our radios, the soundtracks of our films, our series, our advertisements, the corridors of our planes, our supermarkets, the hype playlists of our nerdy friends, and the stylish ones of the trendsetters we follow, like the soundtrack of our road-trips or our evenings out with friends.
To make a long story short, Juniore began with the release of two singles - first in 2013, then in 2014 (LE PHONOGRAPHE/Entreprise). The band continued its journey with an EP Marabout released in 2015 (LE PHONOGRAPHE/IDOL). A debut album Ouh Là Là was released in 2016 (LE PHONOGRAPHE/SONY) - A cassette was released in the USA at the same time (Burger Records) - And a first EP in the UK in summer 2017 - Magnifique (Outré Disques)- marked the start of a special relationship with the British. The band performs just about everywhere - Tour operator United Talent represents Juniore internationally, and Radical has been their preferred partner in France since the release of their second album Un, Deux, Trois.

  • Ratu$
    Friday, November 29, 2024 from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

A big fan of French rap from the P.L.V.S. neighborhood in Pierrefitte-sur-Seine, 93, Ratu$ started rapping at the age of 16. At the same time, he embarked on a career in soccer, which enabled him to live abroad until he was 19. On his return to France, his life oscillated between CFA clubs and a few misdemeanors that kept him away from rap. It was during these years that the Ratu$ spirit developed, a rat's lifestyle on the bangs of society flooded with stories from the neighborhoods...
He decided to devote himself fully to his other passion, rap, on his friends' label, Saboteur Records.
