The Paris 2024 Olympic Games are fast approaching, and the organizing committee is gradually revealing more and more information surrounding the competition, with almost a year to go. While the route of the Olympic flame has just been unveiled, it's now the turn of the road cycling events to be revealed, between the Trocadéro, the Butte Montmartre and the Vallée de Chevreuse, in the Île-de-France region, depending on the event. On the program: road races and time trials, starting in the heart of the capital!

For the timed event, women and men cyclists will face an incredible round trip from Les Invalides to the Bois de Vincennes, passing through some of the most beautiful monuments and landscapes the City of Light has to offer. On Saturday, July 27, 2024, spectators will be able to watch the athletes over 32.4 kilometers, with free access along the entire route, except at the start and finish.

As for the road races, the course gets much tougher! On August 3, 2024, 90 male cyclists will set off over 273 kilometers in the Île-de-France region, particularly between the Yvelines and Essonne departments, with an imposing positive altitude difference of 2800 meters! For the women, it's 158 kilometers and 1700m of ascent the following day, again starting and finishing at the Trocadéro.

Between city and forest, the courses are very hilly, even steep for some, with real technical difficulties, between cobbled streets and winding portions. For the road races, athletes can enjoy a 5km parade before setting off from Paris's 5th arrondissement, passing through Meudon, Versailles, Saint-Germain-en-Laye and a whole section of the Chevreuse Valley, a favorite with Parisian cyclists.

On the way back to the capital, the gradient will continue to make itself felt, as the athletes have to climb the Butte Montmartre to the Sacré-Coeur basilica, which promises to be quite a sight! The final kilometers will take them to the Pont d'Iéna, to finish in front of the Eiffel Tower with an Olympic medal for the champions.
