Paris's 8th arrondissement is being transformed into a sporting hub during the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Find out what events are being held there, and places to visit around these Olympic venues.

It's no secret, but you may have missed the news: Paris is hosting the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games! A sporting event on an international scale, which is set to change the face of the capital for a few weeks. The Games take place from July 26 to September 8, 2024, at various venues in Paris and the Île-de-France region.

The 8th arrondissement will also be living to the rhythm of this great competition, and for good reason: the district is hosting several events, and is home to three Olympic and Paralympic venues during this summer of 2024. Here are the sporting venues to discover, and all the information you need to enjoy these Games in the 8th arrondissement of Paris.

Grand Palais

Located near the Champs-Elysées, on avenue Winston Churchill, the Grand Palais is a vestige of the1900 Universal Exhibition. The building 's architecture is impressive, particularly its nave, which has been classified as a historic monument. Today, the Grand Palais hosts exhibitions, fairs and shows... The building underwent a major renovation in preparation for the Olympic Games.

The Grand Palais is one of the theaters of the Games:fencing, wheelchair fencing and taekwondo events are scheduled to take place there. The venue is served by metro lines 1 and 13 (Champs-Elysées Clémenceau stop).

Place de la Concorde

Place de la Concorde is one of the capital's best-known and most visited squares. Formerly known as "Place Louis XV", it is one of Paris's "royal squares". It lies between the Tuileries Gardens and the Champs-Elysées, and is surrounded by various monuments and places of interest. Over the centuries, this square has been the scene of major events in French history, including the executions of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette. Fights, conflicts, demonstrations, concerts, political gatherings: Parisians often gather on this essential square.

The square is accessible by metro, thanks to lines 1, 8 and 12, which meet at Concorde station. Four events will be held on the square, including breakdance and skateboarding, the guest sports of the Paris Olympics.

Alexandre-III Bridge

The Pont Alexandre-III links the 8th arrondissement (right bank) with the 7th arrondissement (left bank). It owes its name to Tsar Alexander III of Russia, as a sign of friendship, and to consolidate theFranco-Russian alliance signed in 1891. The bridge was also created for the1900 Universal Exhibition. The bridge is richly decorated, paying homage not only to France's great eras, but also to the arts, sciences and combat.

The bridge is accessible from the right bank via Place de la Concorde (metros 1, 8 and 12, Concorde stop), or via Les Invalides on the left bank (metros 8 and 13, or RER C). Four events are scheduled on or under the bridge:
