Looking to celebrate Saint Patrick in style? Mark your calendar for March 17th, but don’t stop there—it's also traditional to gather a few days before and after to join in this lively Irish holiday. And of course, it’s customary to dress head-to-toe in green to get into the spirit of the festivities!
Let it be said: Paris and the Île-de-France region are gearing up to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with lively festivities, featuring great Celtic music. Visitors can also try their hand at traditional Irish dance. So, dust off the fiddle, the tin whistle, the harp, the bodhrán, and other Irish instruments, and get ready for the spirited Ceili dance or the energetic Irish stepdance!
For the record, March 17 refers to the anniversary of Saint Patrick 's death in the year 461. Still considered the patron saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick was born in the 4th century in Great Britain. Although the festival's origins were religious, it was not until 1903 that it was finally transformed into a popular festival, when March 17 was officially declared a public holiday in Ireland. And it wasn't until 1931 that the very first St. Patrick's Day parade took place in Ireland.
