Felfel, the festive event celebrating the Maghreb at the Institut du Monde Arabe

From July 12 to 14, 2023, the Institut du Monde Arabe and the Fondation Cartie pour l'art contemporain invite you to the very first edition of Felfel, a festival offering concerts, dances, meetings, karaoke, screenings and debates... to promote the cultural traditions of the Maghreb. With some free, open-air events, the festival is open to all, and closes with a grand ball on July 14th.

For a one-way ticket to the heart of Maghrebian cultures, join us for the very first edition of the Felfel festival, from July 12 to 14, 2023, to discover, celebrate and pay tribute to these traditions straight from North Africa. For the occasion, the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain and theInstitut du monde arabe are teaming up with historian Naïma Huber-Yani to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the 1983 march for equality and against racism, led by Franco-Maghrebi youth at the time.

For three days, immerse yourself in Algerian, Tunisian and Moroccan cultures by taking part in the inaugural picnic and tasting of typical Maghreb dishes, attending one of the screenings-debates on the program, a concert or the July 14th ball scheduled to close the event.

So, head to theArab World Institute from July 12 to 14 to discover traditions, songs, gastronomy... In short, Maghrebian cultures, in a place that works daily to bring these same cultures to light through exhibitions, events like this one, workshops, conferences... Admission is free, with only a few events requiring advance online booking!

  • 6:30pm: Festival inauguration: Felfel aperitif and picnic (tikourbabines, keftas...), music by Fanfaraï, flashmob by the Kif Kif Bledi troupe / Parvis de l'Institut du monde arabe

Thursday July 13th

  • 4:00 pm: Screening / debate: Les Marcheurs, chronique des années beurs by Samia Chala, Thierry Leclère and Naïma Yahi ( Public Sénat / Jem Prod / 52'). In the presence of Salah Amokrane, Samia Messaoudi, Djamel Attalah (to be confirmed) and Naïma Yahi / Institut du monde arabe auditorium
  • 6:00 pm: Screening / discussion: Bon baisers du bled by Linda Bendali (France 5 / Zed Prod / 52'). In the presence of the director, Mohamed el Khatib and Linda and Fatima Amirat / Auditorium of the Arab World Institute. Moderator: Yassine Khiri, journalist
  • 8pm: Naïma Huber-Yahi and Samira Brahmia, Les femmes connaissent la chanson, hommage aux grandes chanteuses de l'exil. With the complicity of the troupe Kif Kif Blédi (sung conference) + Naïma Huber-Yahi, Le karaoké du bled (karaoke) / Jardin de la Fondation Cartier


Friday, July 14th

  • 4pm-7pm: Les récits de soi, 3 duo literary talks with Samira El Ayachi, Adila Bennedjaï-Zou, Kaoutar Harchi, Lina Soualem, Souad Massi, Nawel Ben Kraïem / Jardin de la Fondation Cartier
  • From 8pm: Bal du 14 juillet: Rock n'Raï hits by Mehdi Askeur (member of the Orchestre National de Barbès) and Samira Brahmia and their musicians, Mehdi Ryan, Mouss & Hakim - from Zebda to Les Darons de la Garonne.
