Released in cinemas in 2018, Taxi 5 has renewed fan interest in one of cinema's most iconic French sagas. Helmed by producer Luc Besson, this fifth opus was directed by Franck Gastambide, also a leading actor, marking a new stage in the franchise.
Gastambide, who made his name with Les Kaïra, has established himself as a key figure on the French film scene. He shares the bill with well-known names such as Malik Bentalha, Ramzy Bedia, Monsieur Poulpe, and the return of Bernard Farcy in the iconic role of Commissaire Gibert, now Mayor of Marseille. Despite the absence of Samy Naceri and Frédéric Diefenthal, who contributed to the fame of the first films, Taxi 5 retains the key elements that made the series such a success: breathtaking chases and a mix ofaction andhumor.
The film introduces Sylvain Marot, played by Franck Gastambide, an exceptional police officer transferred to Marseille's Police Municipale. Ex-Commissioner Gibert, at a low ebb in the polls, entrusts him with the task of stopping the "Italian Gang", who are robbing jewelry stores with Ferraris. To succeed, Sylvain Marot must team up with Eddy Maklouf, the grand-nephew of the famous Daniel, played by Malik Bentalha. Despite his reputation as Marseille's worst VTC driver, Eddy is the only one who can recover the mythical white cab.
Cab 5 promises an adventure full of twists and turns, sure to delight nostalgic fans and newcomers alike. Available on Netflix from April 1, 2024, it's the perfect opportunity to (re)discover this chapter in the Taxi franchise.
