With its blend of suspense andhorror, Barbare is a terrifying creation by ZachCregger, who also wrote the screenplay. The film plunges viewers into a frightening atmosphere from the very first minutes. With a cast including Georgina Campbell, known for her role in Black Mirror, Bill Skarsgård, famous for his portrayal of Pennywise in Ça and soon to appear in The Crow, and Justin Long of Jeepers Creepers, the story revolves around an Airbnb rental that turns into a nightmare.
Tess, played by Georgina Campbell, arrives in Detroit for a job interview and finds herself forced to cohabit with Keith, played by Bill Skarsgård, in a seemingly double-booked Airbnb. Tension quickly mounts when Tess is awakened by disturbing noises, discovering that the house harbors much more than just housing unpleasantness. What begins as an awkward situation quickly turns into a struggle for survival, where every dark corner could hide terrifying truths.
Barbare targets fans of psychological thrillers and horror films who are looking for more than just a jolt; they're looking for a plot that takes them beyond instinctive fear, exploring psychological terror and slowly building tension. The film's premise, combining the dynamics of a shared rental with horrific elements, offers an original twist on classic horror film scenarios, engaging the audience in a series of shocking and unexpected revelations.
Since its first broadcast on October 26, 2022 on Disney+ and its forthcoming arrival on Netflix on May 2, 2024, Barbare has captivated a wide audience with its innovative approach to the horror genre.
