Palais Galliera looks all festive… This November 2, 2022, come and celebrate Dia de Muertos, in tribute to Frida Kahlo. A free event for families, you do not want to miss!

Careful, VIP party incoming! The Palais Galliera opens to children (and their parents) this November 2, 2022. The fashion museum devotes an exceptional exhibition to Frida Kahlo – a renown Mexican painter and artist. To honor this great name of art, the museum also throws a Dia de Muertos: the traditional Mexican festival of the dead.

All day long, families can discover all the secrets and traditions hiding behind this very special celebration. Costumes, decorations, music, food, symbols, beliefs: learn more about this Mexican festival.

Known as Paris fashion museum, the Palais Galliera devotes a promising exhibition to a major icon: Frida Kahlo. This retrospective – in partnership with the Museo Frida Kahlo – is to unveil over 200 pieces coming straight from the artist’s childhood home, the Casa Azul in Mexico. And of course, do not forget to come costumed: in Mexico, the memories of those we loved is celebrated with singing and dancing and having fun! By the way, entertainments planned by the Palais Galliera for the day are likely to help you entirely blending in this festive atmosphere.

On the menu of this exceptional day reserved for families:

  • In the Grande Galerie
    Two moments for a complete change of scenery:
    • 10 a.m.-1 p.m.: family workshops
      Participative construction of an altar for the dead, creation of Cempasuchil flowers, iconic of the festival of the dead, creation of Frida-style flowered headbands, and skeleton masks to visit the museum.

    • 2:30p.m.-4 p.m.: Female Mariachis concerts 
      To celebrate the Dead, the Mariachis – a traveling Mexican musician band – will be here, played by women! As a matter of fact, band Arrieras Somos, only made of female Mariachis (the first in this category) will provide popular songs and traditional music to the sound of violins and trumpets. Workshops and shows for free of charge, open to all, as long as seats are available.

  • In the exhibition
    10:15 a.m., 11:15 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:15 p.m.: family discovery tours 
    Children and adults will discover (or rediscover) Frida Kahlo’s exceptional history. From her birth in Mexico to her travels to Grigolandia (the U.S.), and her traditional Tehuana dresses and accessories, Frida will take you to her surprising universe.
    Registration on site at the reception desk of the museum, 30 minutes before the tour begins; capacity limited. Free entertainment (adults must purchase a ticket for the exhibition). Tour departs from the museum’s hall.
