Dumbo, the friendly flying elephant has not finished making children (and their parents) dream! Back on the big screen in 2019, in a film directed by Tim Burton, this new feature film is broadcast this Saturday, April 1 on television, at 9:05 pm on 6Ter (channel 22).

As a reminder, Dumbo, the Disney animation classic, was released in the United States on October 23, 1941. We had to wait until well after the end of the Second World War to discover it in France, on October 25, 1947. The film was also presented at the 1947 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Grand Prize for animation. Frank Churchill and Oliver Wallace won theAcademy Award for Best Music for this film, one of the studios' shortest.

Synopsis:

This live-action version of Dumbo tells the story of Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell), a former circus star who finds his life completely turned upside down when he returns from the war. Max Medici (Danny DeVito), owner of a struggling circus, recruits him to take care of an elephant with disproportionate ears, which has become a laughing stock. But when Holt's children (Nico Parker and Finley Hobbins) discover that the elephant can fly, persuasive entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere (Michael Keaton) and aerial acrobat Colette Marchant (Eva Green) step in to make the young pachyderm a real star...

Review:

In one word: Stunning!

Tim Burton plunges us into an incredible magical universe with dazzling sets and sensational costumes! We find all the essence of Dumbo, and even the most emblematic scenes of the Walt Disney cartoon, under a new light, in a completely new and original story. The photography is magnificent and we note a real artistic work as much on the side of the costumes, the staging and the sets, entirely created for the occasion, as on the shooting which sublimates the whole.

Dumbo is a circus and show film that reminds us a bit of The Greatest Showman with incredible phantasmagorical passages on the front of the stage and an artist's life that is not always as rosy as it seems! The elephant is ultra endearing and transmits a lot of emotions to the spectator! We cannot remain insensitive to his charm and we live with him his joys, his sorrows and his fears.

The actors also bring their touch of emotion to the story. Holt Farrier returns from war crippled shortly after the death of his wife and feels helpless in front of his children. The lovely Colette, played by the brilliant Eva Green, takes a liking to this charming family and the incredible elephant she protects.

Even the circus director, a bit dishonest at times, is no less funny. He has a touching side and more depth than he appears to have. The fall is also interesting because it brings a very current reflection on the place of animals in circuses! The wish of Tim Burton, in our video posted above, is amply fulfilled! Bring your handkerchiefs!
